Day 2

Updated: Nov 8, 2023

Today I pray Lord create in me a clean heart

Scripture: Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

Focus & meaning: Pure of heart; a singleness of heart towards God seeking His transformation

Like a skilled potter moulds clay, invite God to shape and create a pure heart within you. Acknowledge your imperfections and ask Him to renew your mind. Trust that God's work in your heart will lead to a steadfast and righteous character.

At the outset of this fast what a great prayer to pray to position us to receive from God - “ Today I pray for a clean heart” What does that look like?

1. It requires coming to God with humility.

  • Humility is to see ourselves as we actually are, forgiven of our sin and helpless without God.

  • Humility attracts the presence of God

  • A humble heart is easily directed by God and is a heart open to His guidance.

2. It involves confessing our sins which is necessary for a relationship with God.

Any sins have a way of slowly filling the cracks and crevices of our spiritual life; much like the way dust accumulates in a house that’s not cleaned. Its so gradual that we may not notice. In the same way, fasting opens our eyes to see ourselves from God’s perspective. The sins we hadn’t noticed before suddenly become obvious. Fasting is an incredibly effective way to get into the corners of our soul and bring all those dusty old habits, broken mindsets and rusty attitudes out into the light of God’s truth. As you pray and fast today, ask God to show you any areas where you could refresh your spiritual focus, and to restore the joy of your salvation. Do some work with God today. Confess your sins to Him and renew your mind. Pray with confidence, knowing that He wants to fill you with His life and peace. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

What an awesome follow-up from yesterday!! Lord knows we need a clean heart each and every day. I loved the phrase that said “dusty old habits” as I picture habits that we once stored away, that gathered dust, and we sometimes pick it up off the shelf and run with it again. Lord help us not to return to those familiar and destructive habits!!! Blessings!
